Description

Want a short foreground plant that will give you a flowing carpet?  Here comes Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis, or more commonly known as Micro Sword.

Micro sword is a heavy root feeder, and while it is easy to keep alive, it requires a good substrate and higher light to give you that lush carpeting effect. The best substrate in my experience is garden soil capped with gravel or sand, which provides it with optimal nutrients.

Lilaeopsis has a finer leaf structure than a dwarf sag, and definitely harder to grow. It's runners stay closer to the base when it propagates, and grows denser than other runner plants.

The lighter green grassy look of Lilaeopsis would look great with a darker contrast in the midground like a crypt or Amazon Sword.

Quick Stats

  • Scientific Name: Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis
  • Care Level: Intermediate
  • Growth Rate: Medium
  • Tank Placement: foreground, makes a good carpeting plant

  • Ideal Temperature: 70°-86°F (20°-28°C)
  • pH: 5-8
  • CO2: No
  • Substrate: Yes

Micro Sword, scientifically known as Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis, is a popular choice for creating lush foreground carpets in aquascapes. It features thin, grass-like leaves that form a dense carpet effect, providing a sense of depth and scale to the aquarium.

When cultivating Micro Sword, provide it with moderate lighting conditions. This plant prefers nutrient-rich substrate and benefits from CO2 supplementation. It is essential to maintain a consistent supply of nutrients to support healthy growth. Regular trimming is crucial to prevent overgrowth and shading of lower leaves. Take care when planting to avoid burying the crown of the plant, as it can lead to rotting.

High hopes

With just one order, I was able to break it up enough to plant numerous clumps throughout my 4 foot tank. Can’t wait until it grows to fill the whole tank!
