Description

Red Ramshorn Snails (Planorbis rubrum) are popular freshwater snails known for their vibrant red coloration. These snails have a distinct, spiral-shaped shell and are excellent scavengers, feeding on decaying plant matter and algae. Red Ramshorn Snails are relatively easy to care for and can thrive in a wide range of water parameters. They are known for their ability to reproduce rapidly, making them a suitable choice for those looking to maintain a balanced aquarium ecosystem. To breed Red Ramshorn Snails, provide ample vegetation for egg-laying, ensure stable water conditions, and offer a varied diet rich in plant matter and algae-based foods. Be mindful of population control as they can multiply quickly.

Red Ramshorn Snails are very attractive and are great tank cleaners. Both their bodies and shells are bright red. They clean algae off of glass, plants, and decorations, and aquarium substrate. They do not harm healthy aquarium plants.

They are great community tank mates and are safe with all fish, shrimp, and plants.  These snails reproduce extremely quickly, making them a perfect live food starter colony for puffers and other snail-eaters.

Red Ramshorn Snail shells require calcium to keep it healthy, which can be supplemented through diet (leafy greens) or calcium supplements. Juvenile snails grow to breeding size within 2 months. These snails can grow up to 4cm in diameter.
