Benefits of a Brine Shrimp Hatchery

Setting up a DIY brine shrimp hatchery is simple and cheap. All you will need is an air pump, clear container for the shrimp eggs and some salt. With these, you will be able to keep a replenishing supply of sea monkey eggs for your fish or fry. These are also a fun way to teach your kids about the life cycle of brine shrimp! 

How to Hatch Brine Shrimp Eggs

Hatching these shrimp eggs are easy to do and can be done anytime. Hatching normally starts 24 to 48 hrs after adding the eggs at 28°C

Step 1: Pour 1.5 tablespoons of sea salt and add it to 1 litre of water. This can be done in a clean plastic container or a specialised hatchery. 

Step 2: Add a small amount of bicarbonate to raise the pH level to 8 or 9. 

Step 3: Add an air pump to help oxygenate the eggs. Then add 2 grams of Artemia eggs.

Step 4: Keep the light on for 24 hours. Then it will be time to harvest and feed your fish!
