Description
Azolla, also known as Fairy moss , Duckweed fern and Mosquito fern, is an Australian native plant. Azolla is the ultimate floating plant, and the fastest growing of all other floaters. This species can handle higher temperatures than duckweed.
Azolla prefers a still surface to grow on, and is great for preventing mosquitos from breeding in your pond or aquarium. It is goldfish resistant, meaning goldfish usually do not eat it. This floater (Azolla) gets about three as big as normal Duckweed and will develop red and purple colours in the leaves under higher lighting.

What is Azolla used for?
Azolla has many uses, particularly as a fertilizer in rice paddies and other crops due to its high nitrogen content. It is also commonly used as animal feed for cattle, fish and poultry because it is rich in proteins, minerals and nutrients.
Is Azolla the same as Duckweed?
No, Azolla is not the same as duckweed. Azolla is a floating fern while duckweed if a flowering plant. Although both are floating plants that rapidly spread, they are not the same.
