Chocolate Cherry Shrimp

Description

The Neocaridina shrimp family includes the Chocolate Cherry Shrimp. Their shells are a dark black, slightly darker than those of the brown Chocolate shrimp. They are created by deliberately breeding deeper and darker variations of the Chocolate morph until practically pure black shells are achieved. An adult will typically reach a height of 3 cm (1.2 inches).

Grades

High-quality Chocolate Cherry Shrimp will be completely black on the torso and legs. This pure black should continue continuously from their head to their tail, with no lighter or translucent parts.

Their legs will likewise be either mostly transparent or significantly lighter than the rest of their body.

Female shrimp have far greater coloration than male shrimp, therefore be cautious while culling and breeding better grades. Make sure you have both male and female shrimp in the aquarium, even if the males appear to be of poorer quality.

Care
The Chocolate Cherry Shrimp is one of the simplest to care for, and they may survive for 1-2 years in a well-kept aquarium.

They can tolerate a wide range of water types and characteristics because they are a resilient species. To limit the possibility of molting, keep the KH between 1 and 8, and the GH between 4 and 5.

A lesser grade will most likely resemble the Chocolate shrimp, with a color that is closer to a dark brown than a deep black.
