Description
The mystery snail is a freshwater snail which is extremely popular because of their beautiful colour variations, easy care and peaceful temperament. They love to eat algae, and can grow up to 5cm in diameter, with a minimum tank requirement of 15 litres.
Mystery snails are extremely active eaters, which makes them so excellent at removing aquarium waste. They are harmless to live plants as long as enough food is available for them; they will munch on plants if hungry enough. Other than algae and biofilm, they also eat fish/invertebrate pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, carrots, or cucumber.
Recommended Tank Parameters
- pH level range: 7 to 8.5
- Temperature range: 20-25C
- Water type: kH 12-18; gH 8-18
- Notes: Snails are very sensitive to copper, so please keep it at a minimum. They also need sufficient calcium in their water to maintain shell health, which can be helped with greens, by floating a cuttle bone in the water, or by using calcium additives.
