Why Are Endler Guppies So Popular?

Endler Guppies, also known as Poecilia wingei are very popular because of their small size, hardiness, and peaceful nature. They do great in community tank environments with other small, non-aggressive fish species, such as guppies, tetras, shrimp, snails and catfish. They also adapt well to most fish tanks, and tolerate a wide range of temperatures, pHs and tank sizes.

What Do Endler Guppies Need in Their Tank?

Endler Guppies are quite small and so a pack of 6 do not need a large aquarium at all, 20 litres will suffice as a minimum. Water temperatures are flexible too, varying from 20 degrees to 28 degrees celsius, they do not require a heater during the Australian Summer. A water pH of 6.5-8.5 is recommended, a neutral pH is best for breeding purposes. Filtration and plants are highly recommended, plants such as guppy grass and hornwort do great to provide hiding spots and are stress-eliminators.

What Do Endlers Eat?

Endler guppies are omnivorous, meaning they eat a mix of animal and plant-based foods. A balanced and varied diet will help them thrive, enhance their colors, and support breeding, this includes dried food, live foods for breeding, flakes, pellets, wafers, tropical foods. They are really not picky eaters at all and will eat almost anything you give them, make sure to feed once per day and feed no more than what they can consume in 1 minute.

Endler Guppy Breeding Tips for Beginners

Breeding Endler guppies is relatively easy and enjoyable, especially for beginners. A larger tank of around 40 litres is recommended to provide ample space for rituals and mating. Feed a high-protein diet, like daphnia, brine shrimp and protein pellets to stimulate and help with breeding. Plants such as java moss and guppy grass are important to help guppies relax, provide hiding shelters and feel comfortable in their environment.
