You will receive one Mischling Shrimp (red or black) that is 0.8-1.5cm in length

Description

Mischling-shrimps are small, freshwater crustaceans that are native to the rivers and streams of Central Europe. They are similar in appearance to shrimp, but have a flattened, curved body. They are light brown in color with dark spots, and have two pairs of antennae. The body is covered by a hard exoskeleton, which provides protection from predators. They feed primarily on algae and other small organisms, and can be found in shallow areas of rivers and streams. They are a popular food source for many different kinds of fish, and can be collected by hand or with nets.

A minimum tank size of 20L should be enough to keep a colony. All aquariums, including Mischling shrimp tanks, should be filtered and cycled. A sponge filter or a regular filter with a pre-filter sponge is recommended for when keeping dwarf shrimp, as their fry are tiny and can easily get sucked up by filters. All Mischling shrimp will feel safest with plants or decor which provide hiding areas for them.

  1. Unique Hybrid: Mischling Crystal Shrimp, also known as Mischlings, are a hybrid shrimp created by crossing two popular shrimp species: Caridina cf. cantonensis (Crystal Red or Crystal Black Shrimp) and Caridina cf. logemanni (Tiger Shrimp). The resulting offspring exhibit a fascinating mix of characteristics from both parent species.

  2. Striking Coloration: Mischling Crystal Shrimp display a captivating coloration that varies depending on the specific genes inherited from their parents. They can exhibit a combination of white, red, and black color patterns, resulting in a mesmerizing and intricate appearance.

  3. Intermediate Hardiness: Mischlings inherit some degree of hardiness from their Tiger Shrimp parentage, making them relatively adaptable and suitable for a wide range of water parameters. However, they still require stable and well-maintained water conditions to thrive.

  4. Breeding Challenge: Breeding Mischling Crystal Shrimp can be a challenging endeavor due to the complexity of their genetic makeup. Maintaining stable breeding conditions and careful selection of compatible parents are crucial for obtaining desirable offspring with consistent patterns and colors.

  5. Fascinating Genetic Variations: The genetic makeup of Mischlings can vary significantly from one individual to another, even within the same batch. This genetic diversity results in a wide array of color combinations and patterns, making each shrimp a unique and fascinating specimen.

  6. Tank Requirements: Mischling Crystal Shrimp thrive in well-established, planted aquariums with stable water parameters. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.2-7.5) and a temperature range of 68-78°F (20-26°C). A well-balanced diet, including high-quality shrimp pellets, algae, and blanched vegetables, is essential for their health.

  7. Shrimp Community Compatibility: Mischling Crystal Shrimp can coexist with other peaceful and non-aggressive shrimp species, such as Neocaridina and some Caridina varieties. However, it's important to avoid housing them with larger, more aggressive fish that may pose a threat to the shrimp.

  8. Delicate Molting Process: Like other shrimp species, Mischlings periodically molt to shed their old exoskeleton and grow a new one. During this vulnerable process, they are susceptible to predation and stress. Providing hiding places, such as moss or caves, helps ensure their safety during molting.

  9. Popular in Aquascaping: Mischling Crystal Shrimp are highly sought after by aquarists who enjoy the art of aquascaping. Their stunning colors and patterns add visual interest and complexity to aquarium layouts, making them a prized addition to planted tanks.

  10. Continuous Genetic Exploration: Due to the ongoing genetic variability and potential for new color combinations, Mischling Crystal Shrimp have captivated shrimp breeders and hobbyists alike. This continuous exploration of their genetic potential keeps the hobby exciting and encourages the discovery of new and unique shrimp varieties.

Remember, if you're interested in keeping Mischling Crystal Shrimp or any other shrimp species, always research their care requirements thoroughly to provide the best possible environment for their well-being.
